We own a factory unit in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. There’s a requirement to have a fire inspection undertaken six monthly, which means they need you on-site, so they can go about their regular tests.

It’s a Subaru Outback Touring XT Wagon that’s made it’s way into our garage. As regular readers might recall, it’s been a long drawn out process that has led us to our first Subaru, and our first Japanese car. The fit and finish is simply incredible, the de-tuned WRX motor is a lovely, punchy thing to drive and the whisper quiet interior is comfortable, functional and top class.

I’ve bought a new car. It was ordered in late February, and should arrive in late May. I stipulated that I wanted a 2025 build and 2025 compliance, hence the delay.

I’m 8 years old. I have jobs to do as a child, like setting the table, feeding the dogs and doing the wiping up after dinner (in the days, pre-dishwasher). For the most part, I’m on top of things, though occasionally, I’m distracted. Perhaps the television is on in the lounge room, in readiness for Brian Henderson to commence his evening news bulletin, so I’m laying on the floor, watching whatever is on before hand.

It’s 20 years ago today. We’d been in our new home for 7 months. We had a small bench, on the back patio, up against our bedroom window. It was a lovely spot to look out over the garden and contemplate the world. Except today, the conversation was more dramatic.
